VideoLinkwell™

A new tool for language instruction and feedback.

VideoLinkwell™ is a Mac OS X application that provides a working environment where sign language or interpreting students can record samples of their work which can then be viewed by instructors to provide feedback in text or in video.


The goals of VideoLinkwell are to:

  • Simplify process of using digital video for students and instructors
  • Improve workflow for instructors giving and marking interpreting lab assignments
  • Allow the use of sign language, spoken language or text to be used to provide feedback and comments on specific portions of student video

Using Videolinkwell

Instructors can:

  • Prepare video for presentation to class with links to specific selections highlight features for discussion
  • prepare video exercises for students
    • student answers can be captured in text or video
    • links can be used as answer keys for student self evaluation
  • Assign source texts for students to interpret
  • Give feedback on student work added in ASL or English by creating links at various time points which can contain
    • text comments
    • video comments
    • tags
    • a specific selection of video can be associated with each link
  • Assign video texts for students to shadow.

Students can:

  • record interpretation of source text videos and merge source and target text videos for review
  • record narratives
  • review and redo their work using linked video to record their revisions
  • analyze video for grammatical features annotating with links
  • complete instructor prepared exercises saving answers using links
